Kuether Family Wins USTA Northern Family of the Year

Saint Paul Urban Tennis would like to congratulate the Kuether Family on being named the 2020 USTA (United States Tennis Association) Northern Family of the Year. The award is presented to a family that has been outstanding in promoting tennis both on and off the court.

The Kuethers have been involved in the Saint Paul Urban Tennis community, as well as the Saint Paul tennis community, for many years. Brandon Kuether first joined the staff as a head coach in 2014. He has taken on multiple roles during his time with SPUT, working as an intern, a coordinator, and then finally settling into his current position as the Program Manager for Tennis and Leadership.

The family’s involvement in tennis all began when Brandon joined the tennis team in high school. Drawn to the family-friendly environment that tennis provides, each of his family members gradually became more involved as they learned the sport together.

Blake Kuether, Brandon’s younger brother, first participated  in 2015 and currently serves as a head coach and trainer at SPUT. Younger sister Sophie Kuether is the Assistant Lead Coach for Camps programming. She is also a Warrior Leadership Academy participant and President of SPUT’s Youth Council.

Brandon’s father, David Kuether, has been involved with SPUT since 2018, when he first served as a Junior Team Tennis (JTT) coach. David is currently SPUT’s Adult Lessons Coordinator.

When asking Brandon what he loves most about SPUT, he said it’s all about the people. “You will not find a more inclusive and supportive community than the folks at Saint Paul Urban Tennis. I’ve gone through many phases of my life with SPUT: from a college kid looking for a job, to now being in a role where I am mentoring the next generation of young leaders in our community, and even having my own kid participating in the program.”

“The Kuethers have played a big part in helping Saint Paul Urban Tennis reach more families in the past several years. They are a community asset and this is a well-deserved award,” said SPUT Executive Director Song Thao.

Becky Cantellano, Executive Director of USTA Northern, said “It’s wonderful to see our sport facilitating family bonds, and even more amazing when those families connect others to the game. The Kuether Family not only plays together, but they also coach, they captain teams, they volunteer, and ultimately they inspire others to get involved and enjoy our great sport. We’re proud to be able to recognize them as our Family of the Year and blessed to have them as part of our USTA Northern tennis community.”

Please join us in celebrating the Kuether Family on their well-deserved recognition!
