SPUT’s Grand Slam Start to Summer

On Monday, June 20, SPUT launched into summer last week with the start of our summer programming. In week one, participants began learning about volleys and Service, a core SPUT SPIRIT (Service, Perseverance, Integrity, Responsibility, Imagination, and Teamwork) value. This week, youth are learning about Perseverance and developing their forehand skills.

Meanwhile, our Junior Team Tennis and SPUTniks players are hard at work improving their skills and preparing for their weekly matches. We have a busy summer ahead of us! Stay up to date with the latest activities happening at SPUT by following us on Instagram or Facebook.

The USTA Foundation NJTL Essay Contest, presented by Deloitte, is now open. NJTL (Junior Team Tennis) participants are asked to write essays answering a thought-provoking question requiring research and analysis.

The question for the 2022 Essay Contest is, “Mayor David Dinkins was convinced that tennis instills confidence, character, sportsmanship, and teamwork. He envisioned the sport as a vehicle to drive you closer to your dreams. Do you agree that tennis develops these positive qualities? Are there other skills or positive aspects gained from playing tennis? What are your dreams? How can tennis help you achieve those dreams and develop meaningful relationships?” Applications must be submitted by 12:00 p.m. on July 24, 2022. Contact us if you have additional questions regarding the essay contest.

27th Golf Classic Raises Funds for SPUT Kids!

A huge “Thank You” to the 142 golfers and the many donors who made our June 6 SPUT Golf Classic at Keller Golf Course a successful fundraiser for SPUT kids. Players enjoyed golf (in beautiful weather!), a Silent Auction, and a delicious barbecue dinner. Funds raised will ensure that all Saint Paul kids ages 5-18 have access to SPUT’s tennis, education, leadership and employment programs.
