Fall Fun at SPUT!
It’s been a whirlwind of a month at Saint Paul Urban Tennis!
Fall Tennis Wraps Up for Ages 5-18
There’s only one week left until our Fall Program concludes. SPUT’s coaching staff has focused on developing our young players’ tennis skills and confidence on court. Keep on the lookout for information in late January about registration for our 2023 spring and summer lessons!
Middle and High School Students Gear Up for SPUT Warrior Leadership Academy
More Saint Paul teens than ever have submitted applications for SPUT’s Warrior Leadership Academy (WLA), to be held November-March. Sixty high school and 20 middle school youth will be invited to improve their tennis abilities and build leadership skills through indoor tennis practice & drills, competition opportunities, and off-court leadership development. Follow along with us on Facebook and Instagram to learn more about SPUT Warrior Leadership Academy activities this year.
Ladies Doubles FUNraiser: Thank You for Supporting Our Kids!
After a hiatus through the pandemic, SPUT’s Ladies Doubles FUNraiser event made a long-awaited comeback on September 29 at Minikahda Club in Minneapolis. Players enjoyed gorgeous tennis weather, a scrumptious salad and dessert lunch, and a silent auction. Close to $9,000 was raised for program scholarships to enable all kids to participate in SPUT programs. Warm thanks to our long-time FUNraiser team of Kathy Vogel, Marti Estey, and Peg Unger, and to so many others who made the event a smashing success for SPUT kids.
Lots of Kids & After School Activity: SPUT’s Eastview Rec Headquarter
In addition to all of SPUT’s regular programming, SPUT manages Eastview Rec Center, providing a safe space after school for youth to play basketball or volleyball in the gym, hang out with friends, do homework, etc. Nine high school students also work at Eastview after school in SPUT’s Employment PLUS program. Employment PLUS combines paid jobs with PLUS time for college and career research and college and workplace visits.
Looking Ahead…
Give a Fall Gift to Impact a SPUT Kid
Help Saint Paul Urban Tennis provide scholarships and continue to keep our tennis, education and leadership programs free or low-cost so that all kids can participate. Help us also to hire and provide valuable work experience for 70+ high school students each year. Every donation to SPUT makes an impact on Saint Paul youth, particularly youth in impoverished and underserved parts of our city. Please give a donation to SPUT this fall. Visit SPUT’s Give MN page to give for our kids.
