The St. Paul Urban Tennis Program began in 1991 with the support of a grant from the Northwest Tennis Patrons and through the efforts of a small group of people led by Sandy Martin, John King, Fred King, Bernie Gunderson and Paul Steinhauser.  During the summer of 1991, the first year of the program, we operated three sites and served 125 children.

Working with the City of Saint Paul, additional sites were identified and selected.  In 2008, the program served more than 2,000 youngsters at 31 sites in Saint Paul, utilizing 90 courts.  We have expanded our program to include winter classes at indoor tennis facilities.  In addition, school vacation tennis activities are held at several Saint Paul Park and Recreation Centers.
